My favorite tree is coigue, this tree is native to Chile is
known by the common names of Coihue de Magallanes. Its scientific name is
Nothofagus betuloides, belongs to the family Nothofagaceae or nothofagáceas.
The Coihue de Magallanes is an endemic tree of the tented
forests that live in southern Chile and the extreme southwest of Argentina. In
Chile, it lives in the regions of Los Ríos, Los Lagos, Aysén and Magallanes.
This tree is in the state of conservation of minor concern. It
is an evergreen tree up to 25 m (82 ft) with a columnar appearance. In its
natural environment it tolerates cold winters and absence of heat in summer.
Specimens from the southern forests resist temperatures down to −20 °C (−4 °F).
The wood is yellowish in color with an attractive vein, of
good quality and is used mainly in construction and carpentry. It is produced
almost exclusively in the regions of Aysén and Magallanes, with the common
commercial name of coigüe. The production volumes are very modest, in Aysén,
approximately 10% of the total production where the lenga production
predominates. In Magallanes, it does not reach 2% of the total production of
sawn wood.
It belongs to the RO-RA-CO ( roble raulí coihue) forest
type.
that has been a tree very studied by Chilean scientists, so I think it must be important for the ecosystem
